When Do Newborn Puppies Open Their Eyes

The average time required for a healthy small pup to open its eyes and catch hold of the light of the day is around 14 days.

When do newborn puppies open their eyes. They aren t very aware of their surroundings however. Two and three week old puppies will be able to track objects with their eyes and judge how far away a toy or a moving object is. Their body color is generally pink and it slowly transforms into the color of the breed. But this is the average time so sometimes puppies may open their eyes a day or two earlier or later than that.

There is no established pattern to know when a puppy will open his eyes. If you do you will probably blind the puppies. During the first day of opening a newborn puppy s eyesight may not be capable yet of seeing too well. It depends on the individual puppy.

As the pups complete on the week the eyes remain closed. The pups are beginning to open their eyes. They may detect light and movement but they may not see details too well as their corneas are still developing. Puppies ears begin to open soon after the eyes do generally around 14 to 18 days old.

Puppies eyes open about two weeks after they are born. Newborn puppies open their eyes when they are about 10 to 14 days old. Anyway you can see the puppies are beginning to open their eyes. Puppies open their eyes between one and two weeks after birth.

Sometimes in one litter one puppy may open his eyes after 9 days while another may open his after 14 days and yet another will open his after 18 days.

Newborn puppies cannot support their weight for the first two weeks of life so they crawl around on their bellies paddling and pushing with their legs and building strength. Our foster dog annie and her 8 pups at 10 days old. Sometimes a pup may even open one eye before the other. They will also go through several other developments after they are born.

When they are starting to open they will do it very very slowly. Around 3 weeks of age. Puppies are born deaf and can not hear a thing. Newborn puppies ears will open between 10 to 14 days of age.

But even then two week old puppies won t see the world clearly. Go from newborn puppies open eyes to puppy growth. Their open eyes continue to develop for several more weeks. Do not try to open their eyes.
